 "Sponsor a Child" ''JOSEPH Foundation" & "SHAMBALA KIDS" Children's Stories Oana Denisa and Gabriel Iulian Oana Denisa is eleven months old and lives with her brother Gabriel Iulian (who is two years old) and with their parents in a single room. All of the money that they have comes from the children’s allowance from the state, approximately $15 per month. Sorin Mihai and Ionut Sorin Mihai is two years old and lives with his brother Ionut, who is four and a half, and their mother. They do not have the allowance from the state because the children do not have birth certificates. Andrei and Ioana Andreea Andrei is one year and a half and lives with his three-year-old sister Ioana Andreea and their parents. They live off the children’s state allowance and their parents’ small wages. The parents have to go to work daily. They earn near nothing and must leave the children alone in the house. They are the neediest and the youngest of the children. Ioana Alexandra, Georgiana Madalina and Constantin Gabriel Ioana Alexandra is 10 yeas old. She is in the 4th grade. She is more mature then her age. She understood the importance of education for her future. Ioana knows her only treasure is her mind and desire to study more and more in order to become someone one day. She is a serious and good pupil: graduated he 3rd grade the first in her class. She was very proud showing us the diploma she was given for excellent school results. Ioana also participated in an international Math competition. Ioana’s younger sister, Georgiana Madalina serious is 7 and is attending the 1st grade. Like her sister, she is a very good pupil. Unfortunately, she suffers from hernia. Constantin Gabriel is the youngest brother of Ioana and Georgiana. He is 4 years and a half. All three children (Ioana, Georgiana and Constantin) are into the care of their paralyzed grandmother and of their aunt. Their only income is represented by the state allowances of the three children and by their grandmother’s pension (which is miserable). Raluca Mihaela and Daniela Daniela is 12 years old. She is a pupil in the 4th grade and her school results recommend her as a very good pupil. When she returns from school, she eats and then starts doing her homework. I haven’t seen her packing her school notebooks and books before doing all her homework and learning. Raluca Mihaela is 10 years old. She is in the 3rd grade. Despite the poverty around her, she is a very happy girl. She asks a lot of questions as if she wants to know everything about everything. When we gave her a present, no matter how small that was, she was very happy and thankful. The two sisters live together with their mother in a poor house in a village near Iasi. They are only 2 of the 13 children of their family whose only income is represented by the children’s allowances and the money the mother gets from work by the day (in agriculture). But now, in winter, the mother has no place to work, so their financial situation is beneath any subsistence level, hardened by the fact that in winter time a family expenses are larger then in summer time. Last time we visited them, they had only corn cobs to put in their stove and warm the one room they all crowded in.
