Last Chance
This program stemmed from our desire to supply the needs resulting from the closing of the "Mobile Support" program in October 1998, when we opened the "Joseph" House - Center for Child Protection. Some of our co-workers chose to continue their activities on the street. This was their choice and we tried to encourage and help them as much as we could. On the 1st of October 1998, Ionel, Peter and Leonard - all three of them social workers with a vaste experience in the "street world" - started off the project of offering psycho-socio-medical assistance for the social reintegration of the young men and girls living
on the street. Their activities took place not only on the streets, but also in jails, hospitals and all the other institutions of transit for the young people living on the street.
The program was intended to help the youngster on the street or those who were about to end up on the street change their lives. The stages of the project were the following: coming into contact with these young people, supplying them with emergency first aid (disinfestation, clothing, helping with the hospitalization - where it was necessary), counselling them in order to find shelter and work and changing their mentalities.
Now all the attention of our collaborators is focused on the young men in jail (who are no
longer visited by their families and who - because of this - are a great risk of ending up on the street).
We regret the fact that the lack of funds hasn't allowed us to develop this kind of work.
