I. Ion Neculce School Project
During
January and February we have started again the activity in Ion Neculce school,
the school where we have considered our help is needed, due to the fact that
children who learn here have to face many problems as: poverty, violence inside
their families, alchool abuse, being raised by a single parent, etc.We also considered it is better to offer counselling
twice a week (on Thursday and Friday), so that we ca help as many children as
possible.
We have
rearranged the counselling room we have inside the school and we have tried to
make it merrier :we took there toys and
educational materials, so that children who come for help ,no matter what their
problems are, will feel safe and will be able to openly talk with us.
Some girls
came –young adolescents with comunication and relationship problems with their
parents, poor school results, bad friends and lack of interest for school
activities. But their first major step was taken-they came and started talking
about their problems, becoming aware of the situation they are in-and who
knows?-maybe after some counselling sessions they will find the power to go on
and overcome the situation they are in.
Also,
another important step was that children who have parents working abroad
started coming to us for counselling.
In January and February we have also
continued selecting volunteers.Interviews took place and six volunteers were
selected. Most of the volunteers are students and, because of this, there are no
guarantees for their continuity-they seem to be very enthuziastic at first but,
the moment they find the possibility to work and get paid they prefer to do
this instead of doing vounteer work.We will continue selecting volunteers
within our possibilities.

The volunteers who were selected were
involved in debates on different themes, suplimentary support at Romanian
language and dancing.
In the same time, during the month
of February,we talked to the director from the Palace
of Children in Iasi and, with the help of one of their
teachers we started developing in “Ion Neculce” school another activity:that of
teaching children the Italian language.
We do our best in order to develop the activities we offer
to children in “Ion Neculce” school.

II. Children in fostering
Although
the program of monitoring children in fostering ended in December 2007, we
continue to keep in touch with them, as we were their support for a long time
and we still represent for them an important reference point. We stopped
visiting them on a monthly base but we speak on the phone ,talk to them as they
started paying us visits and we offer counselling to the foster families.
We
also take the necessary steps in order to find financing that will allow us the
development of a new project for children in fostering and foster
families-until then we continue developing this project as volunteers.
We
brought joy to these children, during January and February, as we offered them
toys, puzzles and clothes that were given to us by the hypermarket Carrefour
Iasi and with the kindness of those who help us within the “Clothes for my
neighbour” program.

III.
Transfrontalier Project – Republic of Moldovia
As
we have already told you last month Joseph Foundation has started implementing
a Phare CBC Transfrontalier project in partnership with Caritas Moldova.
The
project “Transfrontalier partnership for supporting children in need” is
designed to achieve a stronger collaboration between governmental and
non-governmental organizations from Iasi
and Chisinau, organizations that are working in the field of child protection. In
order to achive this objective, know-how visits will be done, a comparative
study (Iasi-Chisinau) will be realised on the topic of abandoned children and
the social protection system and a training for 20 specialists in the field,
from Iasi and Chisinau, will be hold.
In February the first visit
to Caritas Moldavia in Chisinau was taken.Like this, we had the opportunity to
understand the way they work with children in need.We visited a kindergarten in
Cretoaia and a day care center for children with handicap in Sangerei. One of
their strategies is to colaborate in all their projects with the church. We had
the chance of meeting devoted people who, using little resources, work for the
well being of the children in need. It was a visit in which we learnt a lot and
we left Chisinau grateful that Romania have taken many more steps in developing
the social services.

IV. Phare MIS Project – Support for poor gypsy
families in Raducaneni
In
January we started implementing the project “Together for an inclusive
society”, project financed through Phare funds-Measures for Social
Inclusion. The project is focused on qualifying 30 gypsy people in Raducaneni in
two jobs:carpenter and constructor. Like this, the beneficiaries of this
project will be able to support themselves and become a real support for their
own families.

In
January and February we developped organizational and communication activities
with our partners:The Local Council in Raducaneni and Green Ecological
Foundation. We paid some visits to Raducaneni and started selecting
beneficiaries for the project. Also, we have realised the informational
materials that will help promote the project in the local community.

Thank
you for all your support!
We
would have never succeded alone!
