         I. Ion Neculce Program –a ray of hope for children who learn and develop by our side.

April and May brought along many events in “Ion Neculce” School.

Romanian lessons continued (4 meetings), mathematics lessons also (10 meetings), Italian lessons (6 meetings), drawing society had 6 meetings, dance club had 8 meetings and there were 3 debates on the following themes: “Prevention of HIV-Aids”, “The importance of adults in our lives” and “Violence”. We have also started preparing two more debates: one on drugs-the subject seems to be very important for children and we will develop it on the future-and one on children’s future and their school orientation).

Our volunteers proved to be very active again: they have participated to all the activities organized together with the team of the Joseph Foundation and, also, they went together with some children and teachers from Ion Neculce School to the Planetarium and, at some teachers’ request they conducted some lessons at 7th and 8th grade pupils.  In order to reward the efforts done by children who come to the drawing society an exhibition was organized at the offices of the Joseph Foundation, exhibition that was visited by the school manager-Irina Frunza-and by children from the school.

Also, during the activities held on the occasion of Ion Neculce School celebration the children who went to the dancing club, had the opportunity to show both to their colleagues and teachers some of the dances learnt by them. We all had the chance of seeing that these children have the ability to behave like true “little professionals”, to overcome their emotions and obstacles in order to show everyone around that they have worked hard and they deserve to be appreciated and rewarded with applauses.

In April we wanted to reward again the efforts of all the children involved in activities in the program “Ion Neculce” and we organized another going out with 20 children (others than the ones who benefited by the previous going out) to The museum of Natural History and to McDonalds. We believe the photos below speak for themselves about the way the children felt themselves and show us all, once again, how little it takes to make these children smile and feel valuable.

The end of May brought along the recognition of the efforts made by our volunteers in the school year 2007-2008. The team of the Joseph Foundation wanted to thank again all those who involved themselves in activities developed with children from Ion Neculce School. We organized a merry, encouraging (the volunteers seemed to be willing to involve themselves in developing activities for the future, too) meeting in which we offered them a merit diploma.

The Joseph Foundation’s team thanks again to all those who have given from their time in order to offer a ray of sunshine and joy to children in difficulty!

May God repay them tenfold!

II. Sponsor a child

“Sponsor a child” program continued during April and May.

The Joseph Foundation wanted to be of help to poor families in Iasi, as they waited for the Easter Celebration, offering them some food, in order to make them feel Easter light is brightening their homes too. Although we have limited funds we do our best in order to bring hope in the less fortunate people’s lives.

There are times when a word spoken from the heart and a little amount of food can change lives!

Also, during May, we paid two visits to families with hard material and financial situation and whose children learn in “Ion Neculce” School. The two families were recommended by the school manager-Irina Frunza. Visiting these families we could see that both of them have material and health problems (children and parents). In spite the hard times they are passing through their children go to school and have good results. We will keep helping them according to our possibilities.

In May the team of the Joseph Foundation paid a visit in the village Tungujei to see the way Avan family is doing (we have told you before about this family, in our previous reports).  Unfortunately we found out that the mother is in jail as a consequence of a theft committed by her few years ago ( she stole some food in order to feed her family) and the six children together with their father moved into the hose that once belonged to children’s grandparents. The situation is quite delicate as the youngest of the children is only 5 months old and the other ones are 2 years old, 4 years old, 5 years old, 9 years old and 15 years old. They were also given some food, pampers, washing powder and some clothes.

We’ll continue helping them as much as we can!

III.                Republic Moldova project

In April, Caritas Moldova’s team visited the Joseph Foundation. Our guests visited “Joseph House” and learnt about the Foundation’s history and its involvement into the life of children in difficulty. Also, they visited children and foster families from Mosna village. In Moldovia Republic foster care is at the beginning and they find every pieces of information they receive as being very helpful. This visit was a real opportunity  for the Caritas Moldova specialists to understand the way Joseph Foundation’s team works  and to adopt all its positive aspects.

In May, we organized training for 20 specialists from Iasi and Chisinau. The training was addressed to psychologists and social workers from child in need protection’s field. People from Joseph Foundation, from Social Assistance Department Iasi, Caritas Moldova, Social Assistance Department Chisinau and other N.G.O.’s from Iasi involved in child protection took part at this training. The seminar was a very successful one.

IV.               Support for poor gypsy families from Raducaneni

In April and May, beneficiaries from this project (gypsy people from poor families in Raducaneni) started the training on the following jobs: builder and constructor. They attended both theoretical and practical classes  within construction firms from the village. We visited them and till now the trainings carry on well: the beneficiaries are satisfied and eager to work. The training will end in July. In present we have 36 participants. After the parents will take a job the living conditions will be improved for both parents and for the 70 children in their families. We pray to have a great impact in this very poor families from the county of Iasi.

V.                 Opportunities for gypsy children from Voinesti

The Joseph Foundation will involve itself in activities with a  new gypsy community in the county of Iasi, a village called Voinesti, through the project “Partnership for the inclusion of gypsy people on the labour market”.

The project is being developed in partnership with Voinesti Mayoralty and is financed with the amount of  56 620 euros by the European Union on the financing line : Phare/2006/018-174.04.02, Economic and Social Unity, Development of Human Resources, Measures for Social Inclusion.

The village of Voinesti is a poor community with a majority of gypsy people, families with many children and with high abandonment degree. This is why the Joseph Foundation decided to get involved in activities that aim children in difficulty, but there were quite many problems as gypsy adults don’t have a working qualification.  Through this project we intend to train 50 gypsy people( men and women) who are job hunting or who work in agriculture and have very small wages.

The beneficiares will go through a training on one of the following jobs (carpenter, constructor or animal breeder), will be part of a life-skills seminar that will contain elements of vocational orientation and training for the labour market and, at the end of the project they will also receive some tools for the job they have been trained for. The direct beneficiares are 50 adults but, indirectly, we will offer to at least 300 children the possibility of living a better life and avoid familial or school abandonment.

Once more the 10% contribution of the Joseph Foundation is a reason to ask for your help and to invite you to involve yourselves by our side at this project.

Thank you!

Thank you for all your support!

We would have never succeded alone!
